Pop-up Exhibition
On the 24th of June, starting at 6 pm, don't miss the book launch and opening of the pop-up exhibition "Matérias", by photographer Luísa Ferreira at a ilha gallery space.
This edition of the book is the result of the 1st XYZ Books Residency Cycle, and had the contribution, as guest editor, from Vanessa Winship and design by João Linneu and Fernanda Fajardo.
The residency, exhibition and book were made possible thanks to the Institutional Partners: República Portuguesa and DGArtes.

Matérias
Matéria, s. f. (do latom matéria). Qualquer substância sólida, líquida ou gasosa que ocupa espaço, que afecta os sentidos e tem massa e peso. Substância de que os corpos são formados. Qualquer substância susceptível de receber certa forma ou em que actua determinado agente. Tudo o que não é espiritual ou em que não predomina o espírito; carnalidade. Susbtância ou objecto sobre que particularmente se exerce a força de agente determinado. Substância sólida de que se faz qualquer obra (...).

Luísa Ferreira
Luísa Ferreira (Lisbon, 1961) is an independent photographer and holds a master's degree in Design and Visual Culture - Photography Studies, from Escola Superior de Design (IADE), a school where she is also a teacher. She began photographing professionally in the mid-1980s. As a photographer, she was part of the founding photojournalists team of Público newspaper and worked for the North American news agency Associated Press.
She has regularly exhibited individually since 1989, developing personal projects that sometimes include book publishing.
She was part of the Au Féminin exhibition. Women Photographing Women 1849-2009, at Centro Cultural Calouste Gulbenkian, Paris, 2009. She exhibited at the Encontros de Imagem in Braga in the years 1994, 1995 and 1996 and at the Encontros de Fotografia de Coimbra in 1994.
She was First Choice in ARCO98 (Madrid) Photographic Tours with Éter.
He received the 2019 Prémio Autores, Visual Arts, Best Photography Work for his white exhibition, at the Monumental Gallery (Sep/Oct 2018), a project developed from the self-portrait to build the notion of identity fiction, which included the edition of an artist catalog/book with the same title.
